10 Steps to the Summer Project
1. Pick a topic for your summer art project; it will be your art in the style of your favorite and/or famous artist. The subject is up to you, with the style of the artist of your choice.
2. Create your masterpiece this summer. The artwork must be the original work of the submitting artist and just be done during the Summer of 2024.
3. The size of the artwork should be around 16 x 20 (i.e., this is a ballpark size, use your best judgement on framing, matting, and artwork to stay as close to 16 x 20 as you can).
4. Preregister and send the following info for the wall tag, your Name, Title, Size(including the frame), Price and Medium. Send to [email protected] with the subject line “AGOP. Summer Project Pre-registration. Pre-registration ends Aug. 27.
5. Fill out the AGOP entry forms (on the AGOP website) The small tag should be attached to the wire on the back of the artwork, on the right-hand side, and the large tag will be submitted when you register the artwork at the September meeting. No entry fee, but there will be a 10% commission to AGOP if your artwork sells (Honor system).
6. Submit the following information by e-mail to [email protected] no later than August 27.
- Name of artist you selected and title of their artwork that you are using as your reference photo.
- Dates of artist (birth and dealth) and how they fit into this era (i.e. some artists were never recognized as famous until after their death, others were very much in demand, etc. – talk about your artist)What they were famous for and how would you describe their style?
- What type of art did they do, medium, anything about the paintings of this era, etc.
- Any interesting information that attracted you to this artist.
- Why you picked their artwork as you reference photo. What attracted you to this artwork.
- Name of your Summer Project, medium, and how you adopted the artists style or topic into your artwork.
- About the artist paragraph – look at prior books and write up or update your “About the Artists” paragraph.
7. Take a picture of your artwork. If using glass, take your picture before it is framed. Email picture and all other info requested information to [email protected], by August 27.
8. Take in will be Monday Sept 9 , 2024, meeting (First meeting of the new AGOP year). If you cannot attend the meeting, please send your artwork in with a friend. Framing and wiring guidelines are posted on the AGOP website Resource Page titled “Presentation Guidelines.”
9. At the September meeting, pay your $45.00 AGOP 2024-2025 membership dues (this year, membership dues will not be accepted before Sept 1). Dues may be paid on the AGOP website or at the meeting. Remember, there is a $5 discount for cash or check.
10. Bring Artwork to September 9th meeting. People’s choice awards will be presented. Three selected artists will each receive a $25 Gift Card. And lastly, visit the artwork at Orange Park Town Hall anytime between Sept. 10th and Dec, 2024. The exhibit may move to the County Courthouse following the Town Hall exhibit period, most likely in January. You may also choose to have your artwork in the 2024 Artistic View book.
