November 2, 2021 — Lisa LoftonThe presentation will be an explanation and demo of a piece related to her current series, “Vintage Florida”. As a transplant in childhood, she saw the State of Florida as a wonderful adventure with so much to offer a visitor. Born in the 60’s, many of her Florida pieces reflect memories of objects and places that have brought her a sense of happiness and peace, in other words, “A Sunshine State of Mind”. Through sketches from historical references and signs, she demonstrates how she assembles the subject matter for her paintings. Using still life sketches of souvenirs and related objects, she assembles each work relying strongly on perspective, lettering, use of charcoals and ink on canvas, and then the importance of acrylic layering with washes. Lisa’s paintings are illustrative and vibrant and usually tells a story. She uses the combination of bright acrylic colors, washes, charcoal, and mixed media. Her bright illustrative style invites an emotional connection to a time and place. Lisa studied Architectural Design and Fine Art at the University of Florida and Information Technologies at the University of North Florida. Lisa Lofton is the President of the Art Center Cooperative, Inc., and the Vice President of the Jacksonville Artists’ Guild.
